Q.
What is a combine and why do teams need them?
Answer: Simply put, a combine
is a special testing/scouting environment in which a players size,
strength, speed and agility are properly tested and made available
to Universities throughout the country.
The role and purpose of the combines has increased in importance
throughout the years and now functions in role similar to the S.A.T
test in the college educational system. As the colleges rely on
the S.A.T program to compare students from different high schools
and grading standards, the college coaches rely on combines to provide
a standardized format within which to compare football players from
different playing backgrounds, high schools and coaching systems.
The combine tests measure each critical aspect of physical talent
(size, speed, quickness and strength) and allows for fundamental
skill evaluations through repetitions of position specific drills.

Q.
How Do Colleges Recruit?
Answer: College recruiting
is a nonstop process. It's intense and competitive in both men's and
women's sports. No matter what time of the year there is always something
they are working on. Whether its mailing out questionnaires, evaluating

making weekly phone calls once its okay to do so, making home visits,
and arranging for athletes to travel to our campus. Recruiting never
stops. |

Q.
What Do College Divisions Designations Mean?
Answer: As of the 1996-97 school
year, the NCAA had classified 305 colleges as Division I, 246 as Divisions
II, and 352 as Divisions III. ( In football, Division I is further
divided into Division I-A and I- AA.) Most high school athletes probably
dream of playing at the Division I level in front of packed stadiums
and large TV audience. Schools a the Division II, III levels are usually
smaller colleges. However a college becomes categorized as Division
I, II, or III not by the size of its student body or the success of
its athletic program but by factors such as the seating capacity of
its football stadium. If thirty thousand or more fans can fit into
the football stadium, or if the college has averaged more than seventeen
thousand in paid attendance per home football game over the previous
four years, then it meets the criteria of Division I-A; smaller football
seating capacities or attendance earn the school status in another
division. |
|
|
| |
Q.
How many Scholarships Can Each Division Give?
Answer: As of 1996, a Division I school
could award eighty-five scholarships; at Division II, the limit
was thirty-six; and at Division III, no scholarships were available.
But keep in mind at the smaller Division coaches become more creative
and the break the scholarships up to offer partial scholarships
-- half rides, quarter rides and so on.

scores whether they are better or WORSE.
If you are a underclassmen we recommend that you participate in
a combine each year so the colleges can track your physical improvements.
|
|
|
| |
Q.
How long does testing last?
Answer: Each combine is conducted
in one day. You will be assigned a start time in your letter of acceptance
of either 7:30 AM or 11:30 AM. Athletes in the first session will
finish at approximately 3:00 PM, while athletes in the second session
will finish at approximately 6:00 PM.
|
|
|
| |
Q.
Which AI Sports location should I attend?
Answer: Your first consideration
should be your physical conditioning. Choose the Combine at which
you will be best prepared to perform at your highest level.
